BLACKSBURG – A five-run fifth inning by the Virginia Tech baseball team erased an early Wake Forest lead, but the Hokies’ bullpen could not keep the Demon Deacons off the board the rest of the game and Wake Forest won the ACC series over the Hokies with a 15-5 victory on Sunday afternoon at English Field at Union Park.
Held hitless until the fifth, the Hokies capitalized on a Demon Deacon error and scored five runs, with Logan Bible getting a key two-RBI single. He would later score the tying run on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Tufts, but Wake Forest outscored Tech 10-0 the rest of the way as Tech managed just four base runners.
Out of the bullpen, Wake’s Donnie Sellers improved to 5-4 with the win, while Tech’s Cole Kragel dropped to 2-3 with the loss.
How the runs were scored
- Wake Forest (31-20, 13-14 ACC) used two RBIs from Will Craig, one on a solo home run, and Nate Mondou to open up a 5-0 lead through the top of the fifth.
- Virginia Tech (19-33, 6-21 ACC) was held hitless until the bottom of the fifth, when Nick Anderson singled, which came after Phil Sciretta was hit by a pitch to lead off the frame. Sam Fragale moved the pair into scoring position with a fly out to center and Andrew Mogg drove home Sciretta and reached base on a Wake error.
- Matt Dauby then singled to load the bases and Bible followed with a two-RBI single to make it 5-3. Saige Jenco plated Dauby with a double and Bible scored on Tuft’s sac fly to tie the game.
- The Demon Deacons scored multiple times in every inning the rest of the way – a two-RBI single by Jonathan Pryor gave them the lead in the sixth – to secure the win and the series.

- Jenco: double, seventh of the season, 25th of his career.
- Bible: 2 RBIs, first multi-RBI game of the season, fourth of his career.
- Jon Woodcock: 5.0 innings pitched, 176.2 in his Tech career; season-high tying 5 strikeouts (second time this season), 149 in his Tech career; 49th overall appearance for Tech (24 starts).
- Luis Collazo: season-high tying 2 strikeouts (third time this season).
Up next
Tech will close out its home schedule with a game against VMI on Tuesday at English Field at Union Park with first pitch scheduled for 5:30 p.m. It will be the 178th meeting between the two schools, tied for the most games played for Tech against any one opponent.
