Four Hokies advance to flight finals at Hokie Invite

Tech wraps up Lakewood Ranch Clay Court

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech women’s tennis team advanced to the finals of four flights on Saturday at the Hokie Invite. Tech also wrapped up competition at the Lakewood Ranch Clay Court.

Nika Kozar moved on in the Honor singles, defeating VCU’s Marina Alcaide, 6-4, 6-1. Nancy Ghanem is set for the Service singles finals after defeating Liberty’s Polina Miroshnichenko 6-0, 6-4.

Shene Disbergen moved into the finals of the Ut Prosim flight, defeating Radford’s Jeanine Acierto 6-0, 6-2. Sarah Baron battled her way into the finals, defeating Lara Soares 7-5 in the opening set before falling 5-7 in the second. Baron came back strong in the tiebreak to win it 10-4.

Fallon Delp picked up a win in the back draw of the Ut Prosim draw, defeating Wofford’s Annie Mayfield 6-1, 5-7, 10-8.

In Florida, Caroline Daxhelet fell to No. 12 Josie Kuhlman of Florida, 6-4, 6-4. Katherine Butler faced off against Liberty’s Ashley Bongart as the two went split sets. Bongart gave up the first 6-3 to Butler, but the Flames’ player rallied to win 6-3, 10-6.

The Hokies will be back on the court at the Hokie Invite beginning at 9 a.m.
