Wilson announces fall schedule

Schedule

BLACKSBURG – Following the first year of the Jill Wilson era, the Virginia Tech volleyball head coach announced the 2018 schedule on Tuesday, highlighted by eight NCAA Tournament teams and 13 home matches on the slate.

Of the Hokies’ 26 opponents, 14 mustered winning seasons, nine collected 20 or more wins and eight finished the year inside the top-50 RPI last fall.

Kicking off the year at Carilion Clinic Court at Cassell Coliseum, the Hokies will play host to Radford in an exhibition on Aug. 16. The two scrimmaged this spring at Radford.

Opening weekend on Aug. 24-25 will see Tech head down I-81 and I-77 to the campus of Charlotte, as the 49ers host Tech, USC Upstate and Presbyterian.

The squad will come back to Blacksburg the following week for its home tournament against Campbell, Robert Morris and William & Mary. The Hokies will hit the road once again and head to Athens, Ohio, taking on IUPUI, Ohio and Samford the next weekend.

The final non-league match of the season inside Cassell Coliseum will be on Sept. 11 versus VCU, which tallied a 30-win season and won the Atlantic-10 Conference.

Tech’s final weekend of nonconference action will take place in the Lone Star State, with Baylor and UTSA on deck. The Bears finished the 2017 season with an RPI of 17 and made it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

The Hokies will kick off ACC play on Sept. 21 in a clash with Pittsburgh, which won the most matches of any team in the ACC with 26. Two days later, Tech will battle it out with Virginia for crucial Commonwealth Clash points. Both matches will be at home.

Tech will play against every team in the ACC at least once, but will compete versus Clemson, Boston College, Syracuse and Virginia twice. The final match of the regular season will be on Nov. 21 against Clemson in Blacksburg.
