Five questions with Rhegan Mitchell

Editor’s note: Every Wednesday throughout the offseason, we’ll catch up with volleyball student-athletes for five questions.

Rhegan Mitchell | r-Jr. | S | Peachtree City, Ga.

Q: How would you say your age, being the oldest on the team, will help guide the squad this fall?

MITCHELL: “I think with going through this many times now, it’s important to help the younger girls just kind of get into the flow. And if they have any problems, I know they can come to me and stuff, and I’ll give them my wisdom from what I’ve learned over the years.”

Q: You were the first setter at Virginia Tech to have over 1,000 assists since 2013. How does that accomplishment make you feel?

MITCHELL: “That’s really exciting, I didn’t know that was a milestone that I had reached. I think it just shows that I have the ability to set and dish out good sets to my hitters, and then with them executing as well.”

Q: Where do you see yourself down the road with your human nutrition, food and exercise degree?

MITCHELL: “I have been thinking about going to nursing school and potentially becoming a nurse anesthetist. With my major, I can do an accelerated program because I have already taken classes that they would offer. Then with my specialization, it would take a couple years, too.”

Q: What has it been like having early enrollee Talyn Jackson with you at the setter position and how have you coached her up?

MITCHELL: “I think, again, just like giving her my knowledge and what I have been through. And also just helping her get into the role and showing her how the setter position is played at this level. It’s been really good, though.”

Q: What goals do you have for this upcoming season in 2018?

MITCHELL: “I think just taking the end of last year, taking what we learned and taking the momentum that we had at the end of the season and just pushing that into next season. Also, showing the ACC who we are and what Virginia Tech volleyball is. That’s going to be a big goal of ours for 2018.”
