Hokies open 2012 season at Tiger Invitational
Tech to face Nicholls State, Mizzou and #23 Michigan

The Hokies
- The Hokies finished the 2011 season with a record of 18-13 and 11-9 in the ACC.
- Tech returns four starters and a libero from last season’s team including its top two attackers with seniors Cara Baarendse and Jennifer Wiker. Baarendse tallied 327 kills while Wiker added 320.
- Baarendse earned her second consecutive All-ACC honor and her second nod to the AVCA All-American Honorable Mention team. She was selected to the 2012 ACC Preseason Team.
- The Hokies also return senior libero Morgan O’Neill who notched 443 digs last season and hit the 1,000 career mark.
- Top-blocker junior Victoria Hamsher as well as sophomore Kathryn Caine return from last season’s starting line-up. Hamsher tallied 150 total blocks and 223 kills with a team-high hitting percentage of .306 (min. 500 att.) Caine notched 87 blocks and 74 kills during her rookie campaign.

Scouting the Colonels
- Nicholls State had an 18-14 overall record in 2011 while going 5-11 in the Southland Conference.
- The Colonels return four starters and a libero from 2011, including four of their top five attackers. Jennifer Brandt led the team in 2011 with 306 kills, Jessica Addicks posted 239 kills and Sarah Terry added 220. Jennifer Dunn had 236 digs for the Colonels last season.

The Series
- Tech and Nicholls State have met just once previously in a neutral site match in Charlotte, N.C. The Colonels secured the win 3-1 (15-9, 12-15, 12-15, 6-15) in the UNC Charlotte/Tachakari Invitational on Sept. 27, 1991.

Scouting the Tigers
- Missouri returns five starters from the 2011 squad that finished with an overall record of 21-13.
- The Tigers are entering their first season of competition in the SEC and were picked to finish fourth in the Eastern Division. Juniors Lisa Henning and Molly Kreklow were selected to the preseason team.
- Henning earned AVCA All-America honors last season after leading the Tigers with 523 kills, averaging 4.12 per set. Returnee Emily Wilson added 320 kills in 2011.

The Series
- The Hokies and the Tigers only meeting was on Sept. 11, 2010 at the Western Kentucky Tournament in Bowling Green, Ky. Tech claimed the 3-1 (25-20, 22-25, 25-12, 25-22) win over Mizzou.

Scouting the Wolverines
- Michigan enters the 2012 campaign picked 23rd in the AVCA National Preseason Poll.
- The Wolverines return four starters from last season's team that finished 22-13 and 9-12 in the Big Ten.
- Lexi Erwin is the top returning attacker for Michigan after tallying 361 kills in 2011. Claire McElheny added 333 kills in 2011. Lexi Dannemiller returns for the Wolverines in the setter spot, last season she tallied 1,523 assists, averaging 11.63 per set.

The Series
- Tech has met Michigan more times than any other team participating in this weekend's Tiger Invitational. The Wolverines hold a 3-0 series record against the Hokies. The two teams last met on Sept. 17, 2004 in Ann Arbor, Mich. when the Hokies made the trip to compete in the Michigan/Nike Challenge. The Wolverines won 3-0 (30-16, 30-18, 30-24).
