BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech men’s soccer team is set for a matchup with Pitt on Friday, Oct. 27. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. and can be viewed on the ACC Network Extra.

The Hokies (7-8, 2-5)
Virginia Tech fell to No. 4 North Carolina on Sunday at Thompson Field in its last contest. Four different Tar Heels recorded goals in the second half to pull away after a scoreless first 45 minutes of action.

Ben Lundgaard and Morten Lamps combined to make five saves on the afternoon.

Marcelo Acuna is tied atop the ACC charts with four game-winning goals on the season and has nine overall, leading the Hokies. Kristo Strickler and Collin Verfurth each have three goals on the season, while defender Elias Tamburini has the most assists (4).

Lundgaard leads the conference in saves on the season and has also recorded three shutouts in his senior season.

Pitt (8-8, 2-5)
In their last game, Pitt suffered a 3-0 loss Tuesday night to No. 14 Akron. The Zips got on the board in the second minute and added insurance goals late in the second half to earn the victory. Pitt goalkeeper Mikal Outcalt recorded seven saves in the contest.

Forward Alexander Dexter leads Pitt’s goal-scoring efforts with six goals on the season and 14 points. Edward Kizza is second on the Panthers with four goals, and three assists this season, good for 11 points.

Pitt owns a 5-3 record at home in 2017.

The Series – Pitt leads the all-time series 4-3. Tech and Pitt have only competed in seven contests, which dates back to 2001. From 2013-2015 this series ended in three straight ties, Tech broke the streak in 2016 with a 2-1 win. The Hokies look to win two years in a row.

Saturday’s matchup will determine seeding for the ACC Tournament as the winner will be slotted as the ninth seed.

Next up – The Hokies will compete in the First Round of the ACC tournament on Wednesday, Nov. 1. Tech’s opponent and game location will be determined based on the weekend’s results across the league.
