High School: Acuna attended Saint Paul High School where he lettered five years. He was named Best Player and Top Goal Scorer in 2012. He played for club teams Belen FC and Saprissa Academy, scoring 14 goals in one tournament in 2012 with Belen and went on to earn Top Goal Scorer at the U-17 Championships that year. He contributed to two national championships with each club team (2012 and 2014). He also played internationally for U-20 Costa Rica youth national team.
