Hokies wrap up regular season at home vs. Syracuse

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech women’s soccer team will wrap up the regular season on Thursday night, as they host Syracuse at 7 p.m. at Thompson Field.

Tech enters the match 7-6-4 overall and 1-5-3 in ACC action. The Orange are 7-8-2 overall and 2-6-1 in conference play.

The Hokies are 5-2 all-time against Syracuse and has won the last four meetings. Tech defeated SU, 2-1 in Syracuse last season. Tech is 3-0 in home games, with the most recent home victory coming in 2015, with a 3-1 win at Thompson Field. Tech is 4-0 in ACC matches and 5-2 in all conference games, dating back to the 2001 season when both teams were members of the Big East Conference. Tech is 4-0 against the Orange under Chugger Adair.

Tech is led by senior forward Alani Johnson, who leads the team in scoring with four goals. Allyson Brown has added three goals and Jordan Hemmen has two goals for Tech. Sophomore goalkeeper Mandy McGlynn has played all but 14 minutes in goal for the Hokies and has recorded 69 saves. She has 127 career saves, seventh on the Virginia Tech all-time saves list in less than two full seasons at the school.

The Orange are led by Sydney Brackett, who has five goals and Kate Donovan, who has three goals for SU. Courtney Brosnan has played most of the season in goal for the Orange and has recorded 88 saves and five shutouts.

Thursday night will be Fan Appreciation Night at Thompson Field. Prizes and fun surprises will be part of the evening’s activities, as the Hokies show their appreciation for their fans.
