Tech concludes tough road swing
Virginia Tech at Wake Forest, at Clemson Match Notes

Virginia Tech travels to Wake Forest and Clemson this weekend, to conclude a tough, three-match road swing. Tech plays at Wake Forest on Thursday night at 7 p.m. and then takes on No. 7/9 Clemson on the Tiger's home pitch on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.

Entering This Weekend’s Matches

The Hokies enter the weekend 11-1-1 overall and 3-1 in conference action... Wake Forest is 4-7-2 on the season and 1-3 in ACC play ... Clemson was 9-1-1 overall and 3-1 in conference play, heading into Thursday’s match against Virginia ... Tech is ranked ninth in the NSCAA poll and fifth in the TopDrawerSoccer.com poll ... The Hokies earned their third consecutive ACC victory with a 4-2 win at No. 22 Duke on a rainy Sunday afternoon in Durham ... Tech took a 1-0 lead into the half, following the first career goal by Anissa Dadkhah, on a cross from Madi Conyers ... In the second half, Laila Gray, Murielle Tiernan and Caroline Kerns added goals to give Tech a 4-0 lead en route to the victory.

Some Interesting Numbers

With the Hokies’ 4-2 win at No. 22 Duke on Sunday, Virginia Tech is now 61-0 all-time when scoring four-or-more goals ... The four goals scored by the Hokies are the most against an ACC opponent since Oct. 23 of last season, when Tech won 5-0 at Syracuse ... It is the most goals Tech has scored against a nationally-ranked team since Sept. 5, 2014, when the Hokies defeated No. 13 Georgetown, 6-1, at Thompson Field.

Our Newest Hokie

Head coach Chugger Adair relied heavily on associate head coach Drew Kopp and assistant coach Matt Gwilliam prior to the win over Duke, for a very good reason ... On Friday, Adair and his wife, Shelbylynn, welcomed the birth of their their second child, son Austin Tate Adair ... Shelbylynn is an assistant coach on the Virginia Tech volleyball team.

Murielle is the Tops!

Virginia Tech junior forward, Murielle Tiernan, scored Tech’s second goal of the Longwood match and in doing so, recorded her 30th career goal ... She now has 35 career goals ... That puts her alone in first place on the Virginia Tech all-time goals list ... In the loss to No. 3 UNC, Tiernan scored her 32nd goal and in doing so, set a new school record for career points ... She now has 83 career points and is tied for eighth in career assists, with 13.

Ashley’s Not Far Behind

Virginia Tech senior midfielder, Ashley Meier, scored her 28th career goal in Tech’s win over Davidson and now has 30 career goals ... That puts her alone in second place on the Virginia Tech all-time goals list, behind teammate Murielle Tiernan ... Meier enters Thursday’s match in third place in career points, with 72 ... Meier has 177 career shots, fifth place on Virginia Tech’s all-time list.

The Hokies vs. Wake Forest

The Hokies are 5-6-2 all-time against Wake Forest ... WFU won the last meeting, 1-0, in Blacksburg last season ...
