No. 24/25 Hokies on the road to face #RV/RV Auburn

BLACKSBURG - The No. 24/25 Virginia Tech women's basketball is on the road for a Sunday evening game at No. RV/RV Auburn. Game time is set for 5 p.m. EST and will be aired on the SEC Network.

THE HOKIES (10-0)
Virginia Tech is off to a 10-0 start this season after defeating Bowling Green 98-51 the last time out. The 98 points marks the most by the program since dropping in 103 against High Point to open the 2007-08 season. Tech also hit a season-high field goal percentage, knocking down 54.0 percent on 34-of-63 while going 13-of-26 from long range. Six Hokies hit double digits and were led by Samantha Hill with 21 points. Chanette Hicks added 17 points, six assists and five steals while Vanessa Panousis dropped in 15 points and Kendyl Brooks tallied 11. Sidney Cook and Regan Magarity continued adding double-doubles to their resumes with Magarity’s 15 points, 12 rebounds and Cook’s 12 points, 13 boards.

Bowling Green actually led after the first quarter, 20-18 before the Hokies went to work. Tech used a 29-7 second frame to put the game out of reach and take a 47-27 lead into the break. The Hokies outscored BGSU 51-24 after the intermission to roll to the win.

Hicks leads the Hokies, averaging 16.8 points, 4.5 assists and 4.7 steals per game. Cook is posting 14.1 ppg and 9.2 rpg. Magarity is averaging 12.7 ppg and 8.8 rebounds per game while Hill is dropping in 10.0 ppg and Panousis is tallying 9.5 ppg.

THE TIGERS (8-2)
Auburn secured a 76-66 decision over Louisiana Tech the last time out. Katie Frerking had 30 point and 11 rebounds in the win while Brandy Montgomery added 12. Janiah McKay handed out five assists.

Both teams got off to a slow start with Louisiana Tech holding a 9-8 lead after the first quarter. Auburn used the next two frames to take the lead, outscoring the Bulldogs 48-27 to go on top 54-36 with 10 minutes left to play. Louisiana Tech looked to make a surge in the final minutes, cutting the lead down to 10 in the fourth, but the Tigers held off the rally for the win.

Frerking and Montgomery lead the team averaging 15.8 ppg. Frerking is also pullind down 8.4 rpg. McKay is chipping in 10.0 ppg.

THE SERIES
This marks the sixth meeting between the Hokies and Tigers. Tech trails 5-1 all-time in the series, but the teams haven’t played since March 2007 in the WNIT. Auburn claimed the 81-73 win at Cassell Coliseum. Current Virginia Tech assistant coach Britney Anderson led the Hokies in that game with 24 points.

The Hokies have already faced one team from the SEC this season, defeating Tennessee 67-63 at home. Hicks had 24 points while Magarity added 16 and Cook had a double-double with 14 points, 12 rebounds.

Up Next: Virginia Tech will host Radford on Dec. 21 at Noon in Cassell Coliseum. It is the last game for the Hokies before the holiday break.
