Stone, Szabo finish top-eight in 200 free

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Virginia Tech men’s swimming team wrapped up the third day of the 2018 ACC Swimming & Diving Championships at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.

Top finishes for the Hokies on the third day of competition came from junior Norbert Szabo and freshman Lane Stone, who both qualified for the A finals of the 200 freestyle. Szabo claimed fifth in the event with a time of 1:35.06 while Stone finished in 1:35.23 for seventh. Both were NCAA B cut times.

In the 400 IM, Sam Tornqvist picked up points in 11th with a B cut of 3:47.87. Michael Craddock shaved 4.53 off his qualifying time to take first in the C heat (17th overall) with a B time of 3:46.66.

Harrison Pierce added a 16th place finish in the 100 fly with a B time of 46.95.

The Hokies had B times in the 100 breaststroke as Lasse Pittioni swam a 54.24 for 19th while Justin Edwards was 22ndin 54.54.

Jake Lamparella took 22nd with a B-cut of 48.13 in the 100 back and his teammate Sean Workman finished just behind in 23rd with a mark of 48.45.

Tech finished ninth in the 400 medley relay behind Lamparella, Pittioni, Szabo and Ian Ho with a time of 3:12.28.

The Hokies will be back in the pool for the final day beginning at 10 a.m. at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. Saturday’s events include 200 back, 100 free, 200 breaststroke, 200 fly, 1650 free, and 400 free relay.
