No. 25/RV Hokies set to host in-state rival No. 11/21 Virginia

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams are set to host rival No. 11/21 Virginia in a two-day dual meet, Jan. 12-13 at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center. Tech will honor its seniors on Saturday.

IN THE RANKINGS
The H2Okies are 25th in the latest CSCAA TYR Top-25 women’s coaches poll while the men are receiving votes.

UVA enters the weekend ranked 11th on the women’s side and 21st in the men’s standings.

THE HOKIES
Virginia Tech is coming off the winter break following the Hokies’ annual Florida training trip. The last time out, the H2Okies finished third at the Purdue Invitational in both the men’s and women’s event. Tech finished just behind highly-ranked Indiana and Florida on both sides.

Highlighting the event were first place finishes from Klaudia Nazieblo (200 fly) and Reka Gyorgy (400 IM) for the women’s team while Ian Ho claimed the top-spot in the 50 free for the men’s team.

The Hokies had a strong showing in diving with Ashlynn Peters taking first in the 3-meter, second in the 1-meter and fourth on the Platform. Thomas Shinholser had a pair of second place finishes, taking it on the 3-meter and the Platform while Ben Schiesl finished third in the 1-meter.

THE CAVALIERS
Virginia split results last weekend against Tennessee with the women’s team defeating the Volunteers while the men fell. The Cavaliers have a pair of swimmers on the women’s team ranked in the top-five nationally with Caitlin Cooper in the 50 free and Jennifer Marrkand in the 200 fly. Cooper is the current ACC Swimmer of the Week while Kylie Towbin earned Diver of the Week honors.

THE MEET
The Hokies will honor their 12 seniors prior to the start of Saturday’s event. Tech will recognize Ashley Buchter, Adriana Grabski, Maggie Gruber, Kelly Henry, Klaudia Nazieblo, M.J. Ulrich, Logan Williams, Mauro Castro-Silva, Justin Edwards, Jack Gigliotti, Harrison Pierce and Thomas Shinholser.

UP NEXT: The Hokies will travel to Ohio Jan. 19 to face Cincinnati and Xavier. Tech will remain in Ohio for a Jan. 20 meet against Ohio State, Michigan and Rutgers.
