H2Okies welcome Duke, West Virginia and William and Mary this weekend
Tech men and women defeated Penn State in the home opener

BLACKSBURG – After sweeping Penn State last weekend in its home opener, the Virginia Tech swimming and diving team will host Duke with West Virginia and William and Mary in a quad meet this weekend at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center. Friday’s action will begin at 5 p.m. and Saturday’s events will kick off at 11 a.m.

Tech will host university faculty on Friday for its inaugural Professors at the Pool event before putting on its annual Margaret Soulen Gilbert Breast Cancer Awareness Meet. The first 100 fans at the CAC will receive a free pink t-shirt. Live stats can be found on the Meet Mobile app.

The H2Okie women (1-0) were slotted at No. 17 in CollegeSwimming.com’s power rankings this week while the men’s squad (1-0) sits at No. 12. Sophomore Nathan Pawlowicz was named ACC Men’s Swimmer of the Week after posting two first place finishes last Saturday. Classmate Ashlynn Peters was tabbed ACC Women’s Diver of the Week after sweeping the diving events against Penn State.

Due to Hurricane Matthew, Saturday will be the season opener for the Blue Devils whose men’s team placed in the top 40 at NCAAs last season. West Virginia comes off a successful weekend where they won the Big 12 vs. BIG EAST Weekend for the second-consecutive season and saw its athletes sweep the Big 12 weekly awards. Both men’s and women’s squads from William and Mary topped Georgetown and Johns Hopkins to kick off the campaign last weekend.

Last week, The H2Okie divers swept the one meter events with Peters posting a first place score of 315.45 and sophomore Ben Schiesl registering a 333.67. Posting NCAA B-cut times in the women’s 100 back were senior Fiona Donnely and junior Klaudia Nazieblo. Nazieblo took first in the event with a 54.55 while Donnelly finished second with a 54.84.
