Responsibilities: Lawrence coordinates all the sports medicine needs of Virginia Tech’s men’s soccer program, and he also oversees all insurance coverage related to Virginia Tech’s student-athletes.

Joined VT Athletics Staff: 1981

At Virginia Tech: One of the longest-tenured employees in the athletics department, Lawrence began working in the training room in 1979 as a graduate assistant. At various points in his more than 30 years of working in the athletics department, he has overseen the sports medicine needs for nearly every men’s sport. He handled the medical needs of the men’s basketball teams for years and also for the baseball team for nearly 30 years before moving into his current role.

Prior to Virginia Tech: Lawrence worked as a student trainer in the training room at Emory & Henry for four years while working on his degree in health and physical education.

Education: Emory & Henry, 1979 (B.A. in health and physical education); Virginia Tech, 1981 (master’s in physical education).

Of Note: Lawrence served as the trainer for the United States Baseball Federation Junior National Team during the summers of 1987 and 1988. He also accompanied the U.S. Senior National Team to Taiwan for the International Harbor Baseball Tournament during the fall of 1988.

Personal: A native of nearby Elliston, Va., Lawrence and his wife, Peg Morse, live in Blacksburg.
