Responsibilities: Knackstedt currently splits his time working in the Cook Counseling Center and VT Department of Athletics to serve students and student-athletes through individual and group therapy, performance enhancement consultation, team workshops and campus outreach presentations.

Joined VT Athletics Staff: 2016

Prior to Virginia Tech: Knackstedt was a Psychology Intern and Mental Skills Consultant at Notre Dame University; Student Clinician and Mental Skills Consultant at the University of Portland; Practicum student at Lewis and Clark College; Graduate Assistant Coach and Mental Skills Consultant at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Education: The College of William and Mary – B.S. in Psychology and B.S. in Kinesiology (2006); The University of North Carolina at Greensboro – M.S. in Kinesiology specializing in Applied Sport Psychology (2011); Pacific University – M.A. in Clinical Psychology (2013) and Psy. D. in Clinical Psychology (2016)

Of Note: Played college baseball at the College of William and Mary and was named team Captain in 2006. Earned the Colonial Athletic Association – Commissioner’s Academic Award (2006); Outstanding Practitioner-Scholar Award – Pacific University (2016); Member and Certified Consultant (pending) – Association for Applied Sport Psychology

Personal: Born and raised in Hummelstown, PA; Met wife, Ana-Maria while studying at the College of William & Mary, the couple have a 1-year-old son named Andrew and a baby girl on the way in January of 2017. Hobbies include exercising, playing golf, hiking, camping, cooking, attending VT sporting events, and playing with our 9-year-old Yellow Labrador Retriever named Sammy. Currently lives in Christiansburg, VA.
