Responsibilities: Dietter helps coordinate all the sports medicine needs for the Virginia Tech men’s basketball program and for the men’s golf program. He also oversees those needs for the cheerleaders and HighTechs. In addition, he will oversee the sports medicine needs for the women’s golf team once that team gets established.

Joined VT Staff: 2007

At Virginia Tech: Dietter began his career as an assistant athletic trainer with the Tech football team, a role in which he served for three years. In 2009, he moved into his current role as the athletic trainer for the men’s basketball team, while overseeing the sports medicine needs for the men’s golf program and the cheerleaders and HighTechs.

Prior to Virginia Tech: After he got his master’s from Virginia Tech, Dietter spent a year in Florida while working an internship with the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2006-07). He then came back to Tech on a full-time basis in 2007.

Education: Connecticut, 2004 (B.S. in athletic training); Virginia Tech, 2005 (master’s in health promotions)

Of Note: In preparation for a career in athletic training, Dietter worked in the training rooms at both the University of Connecticut and Eastern Connecticut State. He also was a student intern for the New Orleans Saints in the summer of 2003.

Dietter is an NATA certified athletic trainer and a licensed athletic trainer in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Dietter also has completed research with the Riddell HIT System and worked in sales with EMPI and OrthoProsExpress.

Personal: A native of Hamden, Conn., Dietter and wife Jessica live in Christiansburg.
