Responsibilities: Byrd provides academic support for assigned student-athletes in the sport of football. He works with the defensive backs and defensive line. He also oversees the intern and field study program in SAASS.

Joined VT Athletics Staff: 2012

At Virginia Tech: Byrd interned in the SAASS office from August of 2010 through January of 2012, working with the football program. From January of 2012 through August of 2013, he worked as an assistant director in SAASS, providing academic support for student-athletes in the sports of lacrosse, men's soccer, softball and wrestling.

Education: Virginia Tech, 2010 (masters of education in career and technical education).

Personal: A native of Abingdon, Virginia, Byrd lives in Blacksburg, Virginia, with his wife, Katie, their daughter, Brynlee, and their son Oliver.
