Game Notes

BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech returns to Tech Softball Park this weekend for its final ACC home contests of the season as the Hokies take on Duke in their inaugural three-game series that runs from April 20-22.

The games on Friday and Sunday will both be streamed on ACC Network EXTRA via the WatchESPN platform and Saturday’s contest will have an audio stream on HokieSports.com. The program will honor six Hokies on Sunday for Senior Day; Mikaela Aiken, Breanna Davenport, Jessie Mehr, Jordan Nichols and Caroline Schoenewald.

Most recently in league action, the Hokies (19-25, 5-12 ACC) posted a three-game sweep at Virginia. It was Tech’s first sweep in Charlottesville since 2007 and the first ACC road sweep since taking three from Georgia Tech in 2014.

Duke, who’s in the middle of their inaugural season, enters the weekend with a record of 24-22 and an 8-10 mark in ACC play. Head coach Marissa Young was named head coach on July 29, 2015 and has been building the program the last two and a half years. This weekend will see two of the top pitching staffs in the ACC go head-to-head. Duke’s 2.14 team ERA ranks second while Tech’s 2.44 ERA is tied for fourth with Notre Dame.

EBERLE EARNS TWO ACC HONORS

  • After an impressive week in the batter’s box and in the pitcher’s circle, sophomore Carrie Eberle has been named ACC Player of the Week and ACC Co-Pitcher of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday.
  • Eberle is the first player in the ACC since at least 2011 to earn at least a share of both conference weekly awards. She splits Pitcher of the Week honors with Boston College’s Allyson Frei.
  • The Charlotte, N.C., native batted .467 with four hits, three RBI, two home runs and a double while going 3-0 with a 0.64 ERA in the circle.
  • She allowed only eight hits against 77 batters in five games and allowed only three extra base hits in three games against UVA, a team with the second-highest slugging percentage in the ACC.
