Game Notes

BLACKSBURG - Winners of six straight games, the Virginia Tech softball team will next travel to Austin, Texas for Texas Invitational from Feb. 23-25. All five of the Hokies’ games will be streamed on the Longhorn Network via the WatchESPN platform.

The Hokies (6-2) are coming off of a four-game sweep at the ACC/Big Ten Challenge in Durham, N.C., where they topped both Penn State and Purdue twice. Tech’s three shutouts last weekend were its most in a single weekend since the first week of the season in 2015 when it also blanked three opponents. The Hokies are on their longest winning streak since winning eight consecutive games between March 12 and March 26 during the 2016 campaign.

HOKIES VS. THE FIELD
• With 12 combined meetings dating back to 1999, Michigan is historically Virginia Tech’s most played opponent among the field this weekend
• The Wolverines have won the last three games in the series with Tech’s last win coming on 3/14/13, a 3-2 win in Fullerton, Calif.
• Perhaps the Hokies’ most memorable wins over Michigan came in the 2008 Super Regional in Ann Arbor where Tech won back-to-back elimination games to advance to the program’s first Women’s College World Series
• The Buckeyes lead the all-time series with the Hokies, 4-2.
• Tech has dropped the last three games in the series and last defeated Ohio State on 3/11/07, 2-0.

• The lone Hokie making her homecoming this weekend is McKinney, Texas native Molly Stephenson.
• South Lyon, Mich., native Jessie Mehr will go up against the Wolverines for the third time in her career.
• Freshman Sammi Miller, a Huntsville, Ohio native, will be facing Ohio State for the first time.
• For the second time as an assistant coach at Virginia Tech, Justin Miller will go up against his alma mater.
• Miller was a two-time All-Big Ten selection and a two-time team captain on the Buckeye baseball team.

EBERLE NAMED ACC PLAYER OF THE WEEK BY COLLEGE SPORTS MADNESS
Carrie Eberle tossed two complete game shutouts and allowed only four hits over 14 innings of work to go 2-0 this past weekend at the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.
• For her efforts, College Sports Madness named her ACC Softball Player of the Week.
• She struck out eight batters, tying her career high, and surrendered only one base hit against Purdue while also fielding four groundouts herself.
• She’s the first Virginia Tech pitcher since Maggie Tyler in 2016 to throw back-to-back complete game shutouts.
