Hokies' 4th annual Hit-A-Thon set for Oct. 27

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech softball program announced Thursday that it will hold its fourth annual Hit-A-Thon on Friday, Oct. 27, at 6 p.m. at Tech Softball Park.

The evening of fun will feature the Hokies and celebrity hitters taking their best hacks in an effort to benefit the program. Fans are encouraged to sponsor celebrity participants and members of the Tech softball team by pledging a dollar amount per foot the ball travels per hit.

Donors choose the price per foot with a minimum pledge beginning at 25 cents. Hitters’ performance determines the amount of funds raised. Each participant will have 10 swings with the furthest hit counting towards the pledge.

"Our Hit-A-Thon is always one of our most fun and successful fundraisers of the year,” said head coach Scot Thomas. “It helps raise money for our program that helps us do some things beyond our budget and our players always look forward to participating in it.”

This season, a preliminary round will decide which 10 student-athletes will go up against the celebrity hitters in a bracket-style home run derby competition. Sponsors will also be offered mulligans for their hitters - $25 for five and $50 for 10.

Kids are encouraged to dress up in their best Halloween costumes and participate in a free “Trunk-or-Treat” on the field once the event concludes.

All proceeds will benefit the Virginia Tech softball program. To make a pledge for a Hit-A-Thon participant, contact Whitney Davis Showalter at (540) 231-7240 or whitd@vt.edu.
