Softball Guide Named Best in District
Brochure also named 19th-best nationally
June 26, 2003

The Virginia Tech softball media guide earned recognition Thursday, being named the "Best in the District" and 19th nationally.

The contest, sponsored by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), is broken down into eight separate districts. Virginia Tech's was named the top media guide in District 3, edging district runner-up Central Florida.

Oklahoma's guide was judged best in the nation and best cover. Nebraska came in second in the nation, followed by Cal-State Northridge, Texas, Ohio State, Purdue and Fresno State.

Each school submits three media guides for judging by three different judges. There are different requirements for each media guide and each brochure receives points based on those requirements. Such categories include team information (rosters, profiles, etc.), graphic and design (cover, design or book, etc.), conference information (standings, basic information), program information (records, results, awards, etc.) and more.

The maximum amount of points one book can receive is 300. Virginia Tech's media guide averaged 259 points over the three judges with a high of 286.

This is the first time in the program's history its guide has been named best in the district and is the highest finish nationally.
