Hokies tied for 10th entering final round at ACC Championship

The Virginia Tech men’s golf team have a two round total of 2-over 578 and are tied with Boston College for 10th place entering the final round of the 2018 ACC Men’s Golf Championship. The three-day event is being played at the par 72, 7,102-yard Old North State Club at Uwharrie Point in New London, North Carolina.
Tech shot a 295 in Friday’s first round and improved to a 5-under 283 on Saturday.
Mark Lawrence Jr., a junior from Richmond, Virginia, is tied for 16th place at 4-under 140. He trails leader Thomas Walsh of Virginia by eight strokes. Lawrence shot a 1-under 71 in the second round.
Slade Pickering, a freshman from North West, South Africa, is tied for 47th at 146 and the trio of Ian Hildebrand, a senior from Purcellville, Virginia, Joey Jordan, a junior from Richmond, Virginia and Connor Burgess, a freshman from Lynchburg, Virginia, are tied for 49th at 148. Four of the five Hokies’ individual scores were par-or-better on Saturday, led by Burgess’ 3-under 69. Hildebrand and Jordan each eagled the par 5, 536-yard first hole.
Georgia Tech holds the team lead at 23-under 554, six strokes ahead of Clemson and Notre Dame. Duke and Virginia are tied for fourth at 562 and North Carolina is sixth at 563. Wake Forest is seventh at 564 and NC State and Florida State are tied for eighth at 566, 12 strokes ahead of the Hokies and Eagles. Louisville is 12th at 580.
The final round will be played on Sunday. The Hokies will be grouped with Boston College and Louisville and will tee off from the 10th hole, beginning at 10 a.m.
