Hokies meet Eagles in ACC showdown Saturday afternoon

BLACKSBURG – The thirteenth-ranked Virginia Tech lacrosse team (11-4, 4-1) travels to Newton, Massachusetts to face No. 2 Boston College on Saturday April 14. First draw is slated for 12 p.m. from Newton Campus Lacrosse Field.

The Hokies won their program record fourth league game last weekend defeating then eighteenth-ranked Syracuse 15-14 in double overtime. Tech used a late run down the stretch to tie the game through Taylor Caskey, forcing the extra time.

In the second overtime period the Hokies won the draw control and attacked the Orange net with Julia Bolte feeding Tristan McGinley in the middle who fired in the game winner.

McGinley was named the Co- Offensive Player of the Week following the Syracuse game, where she scored four times.

On Thursday, McGinley was also added to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List, the most prestigious honor in college lacrosse.

Boston College (15-0, 5-0 ACC)

Boston College has won four straight all over ranked opposition including North Carolina, Virginia, Duke and Dartmouth.

Junior attacker Sam Apuzzo leads the Eagles offensively with 87 points (59 goals, 28 assists). Junior Dempsey Arsenault is second on the team in points with 66 through the year.

The Series – The Hokies and the Eagles have a long history that dates back to 2001. Boston College has the edge going 13-5 against Tech all-time.

Tech defeated the Eagles 18-12 in Blacksburg a season ago, when Kristine Loscalzo, McGinley, Caskey and Emma Harden each scored hat tricks. Meagh Graham made nine saves in goal.

Next up – The Hokies will return home to face in-state rival Virginia in a Commonwealth Clash contest on Saturday, April 21 at 12 p.m. The game will be played in Lane Stadium.

The game will serve as Senior Day for the Hokies’ eight seniors; McGinley, Brittney VanVeldhuisen, Carly Primo, Harden, Kristen Kohles, Meagh Graham, Kelly Glatthorn and Marissa Davey.
