Hokies take on No. 18 Syracuse in marquee ACC matchup Saturday

BLACKSBURG – The fourteenth-ranked Virginia Tech lacrosse team (10-4, 3-1) back at home on Saturday April 7th for showdown with the Syracuse Orange (8-5, 0-3). First draw is slated for 3:30 p.m. from the Indoor Practice Facility with coverage available through ACC Network Extra.

Tech came from behind to defeat Louisville in their last game, winning 15-14. Paige Petty scored seven goals on the day while providing one assist. Petty also corralled nine draw controls on the afternoon.

Taylor Caskey scored four goals, setting a new career-high as she scored the game winner with 4:01 on the clock on the second half.

Meagh Graham made six saves and the defense forced the Cards into 19 turnovers as the Hokies reached double digit wins for the second consecutive season.

Syracuse won an overtime thriller over No. 6 Loyola 12-11 Thursday afternoon.

Emily Hawryschuk, who leads the Orange with 37 goals on the season, scored the game winner.

The Series – Virginia Tech is 0-9 all-time against Syracuse, in a series dating back to 2001. In 2017, the Hokies and Orange met twice, the first a 12-11 overtime game in Syracuse. The Orange also won a matchup in the ACC Tournament played in Richmond, Virginia.

Season notes:

- The Hokies have remained ranked in the Inside Lacrosse Poll for the past four weeks, ascending as high as this week’s fourteenth spot

-Tech has set the program record for ACC wins in a season in 2018 with three

-Senior Marissa Davey has gone over the 100-goal plateau for her career after scoring twice at Louisville

-Junior attacker Zan Biedenharn notched her 50th career goal against the Cardinals

Next up – Tech will travel to Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts to play the undefeated and second-ranked Boston College Eagles for a matchup on Saturday, April 14th. First draw is slated for 12 p.m. with coverage available through ACC Network Extra.
