Getting to know Carly Goetz

CARLY GOETZ #44
CHASKA, MINNESOTA
DEFENSE

Q: Why did you choose Virginia Tech?

GOETZ: “I chose Virginia Tech mostly because the school is awesome, but also because the coaches. Mostly because of the coaches for lacrosse.”

Q: What was your favorite thing about your visit?

GOETZ: “My favorite part of the visit was the football game. I love football and the game was so sweet and we got to go on the field and stuff like that.”

Q: What do you like about Coach Sung and the lacrosse program?

GOETZ: “He’s just always confident in what he’s doing and how he encourages us in different ways and stuff like that. He treats every player like they are different. He’s also a coach but he’s also just someone you feel like connect with and you can tell that he cares about his players.”

Q: What are some of your strengths on the field?

GOETZ: “I think I have good field sense, especially on defense. I can see where the ball is and I’m good at making decisions on the field.”

Q: What is your most memorable lacrosse moment and why?

GOETZ: “Junior year we played our rival team and I really don’t like that team. We weren’t a good team, we were the underdogs by far and we actually came out winning that game in double overtime. I just had one of my best games ever during that game so I just love that game. It was a good memory.”

Q: What interests you about marketing?

GOETZ: “I like business. I didn’t necessarily know what I was going to go into and then I did DECA in high school and I loved it. I made it to state competition both years, but I never made it to nationals so it was kind of a heart breaker.”

Q: What has been your favorite part about Virginia Tech so far?

GOETZ: “I actually think the people here. I’m really close with my teammates, we really hit it off pretty quickly so I think just having a family away from home and stuff like that.”

BONUS ROUND:

Q: Do you have any nicknames?

GOETZ: “People call me Carl; they just take out the y. Kind of like Carly Primo.”

Q: What kind of music do you listen to and who is your favorite artist?

GOETZ: “I don’t have a favorite artist because I’m like so switch. I’m ether totally hip-hop/rap or like country. There is no in-between that, like my moods will change 100 percent.”

Q: What are you most looking forward to about the fall lacrosse season?

GOETZ: “I’m looking forward to just competing and just seeing what level we can actually play at. Our coaches push us really hard and I want to win and I want to be a good team so hopefully just getting minutes and seeing us bring down some really nice teams.”
