BLACKSBURG- The No. 12 Virginia Tech lacrosse team plays host to second ranked North Carolina at 2 p.m. at the Indoor Practice Facility on Tuesday. Tech can break a tie for first in the league with a win over the Heels. The game will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.

The Hokies (11-2, 2-0)
Tech enters Tuesday’s contest on a season-best five-game winning streak. Last time out, Tech defeated Campbell 19-5 behind a six goal effort from Kristine Loscalzo. Zan Biedenharn also contributed a hat trick and Emma Harden and Taylor Caskey each added two goals for Tech who scored 19 or more goals for the fourth time in 2017. Sydney Gagnon earned her first victory of the season, after taking over for Meagh Graham who played 15 minutes without allowing a goal.

Tech remains ranked 12th in this week’s Inside Lacrosse Poll for the third consecutive week, the program’s highest ever ranking. The win over Campbell tied the 1999 team for most wins in a season with 11.

Tech has posted a 6-2 record at home this season.

The Tar Heels (9-1, 2-0)
Carolina enters on a six-game winning streak following the season’s only loss to current No. 1 team in the nation Maryland. The Heels have not lost to an ACC opponent since the 2015 ACC Tournament. The team is led up front by Ela Hazar’s 39 points and the leading goal scorer is Molly Hendrick who had 32 tallies this season. In goal is experienced goalie Caylee Waters a two-time National Goalie of the Year who owns a 9.67 goal against average.

North Carolina is 4-1 in games not played in Chapel Hill this season.

The Series
Virginia Tech has never defeated North Carolina on the lacrosse field. Tuesday’s match up will be the 24th meeting all-time.

The Hokies and Heels have played three common opponents in 2017; JMU, Elon and Boston College. UNC is 3-0 against those teams, while Tech has dropped games to JMU and Elon.

Next up: The Hokies return home on Saturday, April 1st for a 1 p.m. game against the Louisville Cardinals. The game is set to be played at Thompson Field. Tech will be honoring four seniors at the conclusion of the game; Colleen Ward, Maddy Wollmuth, Loscalzo and Tara Feehan.
